Gastrectomy (Stomach Surgery)

Gastrectomy

This is a surgical procedure in which part of the stomach is removed. This is called a Partial Gastrectomy.

2 types of Partial Gastrectomy

Distal Gastrectomy

Proximal Gastrectomy

Sometimes the entire stomach is removed. When this is done, the procedure is called a Total Gastrectomy.

Total Gastrectomy

After gastrectomy, the reservoir becomes smaller, and the patient may feel a sensation of fullness after a smaller meal. However, the digestion and absorption of most nutrients remain unaffected.
