Screening For Breast Cancer

How Breast Cancer Is Detected?

Mammography

Mammography is an X-ray examination of the breast. It is easy and safe. It is the most reliable method to detect very small lumps in the breasts. It can also detect recurrence of previously treated breast cancer. Most of the cancer cases detected through mammography at an early stage do not require chemotherapy, or removal of the whole breast.

Singapore screening programme

"Breast Screen Singapore" is a national breast-screening programme. It encourages women aged 40 years and above to go for regular mammography. A subsidy is provided for women who go for mammogram screening at the participating screening centres.

"Breast Screen Singapore" is open to all women who:
Are aged 40 years and above
Are Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents
Have not gone for a mammography in the last 12 months.

You can call the "Breast Screen Singapore" hotline at: 1800-333 3030 for an appointment. Mammography can be uncomfortable. To reduce the discomfort, you may wish to book your mammogram dates towards the middle of your cycle, about two weeks from the first day of your last period.
