Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) Treatments at NUH
Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) treatments such as in-vitro fertilisation are clinical and laboratory techniques that involve the mixing of eggs and sperms outside the body to enhance fertility. Some ART treatment includes In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and Gamete Intra-fallopian Transfer (GIFT).
ART – What You Should Know
The ART programme at NUH is one of the leading programmes of its type with many breakthroughs in the field of assisted reproduction.
Headed by Prof P C Wong (Director of the programme and Head of Division, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility) and supported by a team of specialists, it is committed to improving fertility through ART. One of the techniques used in ART is in vitro fertilisation (IVF), which is performed in The Clinic for Human Reproduction (CHR). CHR does about 300 fresh IVF cycles per year. The team at CHR comprises of specialised medical staff as well as embryologists who provide the optimal support and assistance in a private and personalised manner.
Government Co-funding scheme
As part of the Marriage and Parenthood package introduced by the Government to encourage couples to start a family, an ART co-funding scheme is introduced to make the treatment more affordable for couples who qualify for the scheme. This ART co-funding scheme will start on 17 August 2008 at the restructured hospitals. The amount of co-funding varies, depending on the citizenship of the couple.
How do I qualify for the co-funding?
You can qualify for co-funding if the ART treatment is done at a restructured hospital from 17 August 2008, and if you meet all the following criteria:

Either you or your husband is a Singapore Citizen at the start of the ART cycle; |
| b. |
You have no more than one living child with your husband. |
| c. |
You are below 40 years of age at the start of the cycle; |
| d. |
You have been assessed by your doctor to have met the clinical requirements for ART; |
| e. |
Your treatment is a fresh cycle; |
| f. |
You have no more than two embryos transferred during the cycle; and |
| g. |
You have not received three co-funded cycles in the past. |
How much co-funding will I receive if I qualify for the scheme?
The Government co-funding covers all the standard procedures from ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer. Initial consultations and investigations prior to a patient’s decision to start ART treatment are excluded from the co-funding. The amount of co-funding is as follow

How do I apply for the scheme?
No application is needed. You will have to fill up a declaration form at the clinic which will be used to check your eligibility for the co-funding scheme. Once we have verified that you are eligible for the co-funding scheme, we will incorporate it into your bill.
