What happens in the ward
Ward Orientation
When you arrive at the ward, our ward staff will orientate you to the ward, the facilities available and the daily routine activities (ward rounds by doctors, medication, meals, visiting hours and bedtime).
Wrist Identification Band
A wrist band containing your child’s name, NRIC (or passport number) and ward number will be given to you for identification. Your child should wear this at all times while in the Hospital to enable our staff to confirm his/her identity prior to administering medication etc.
Nurse Call Bell for assistance
A call bell is attached to the bed panel. Please use it to call for assistance from the ward staff whenever necessary.
Doctors’ Ward Rounds
Mondays to Fridays:
- 9.00 am to 11.00 am
- 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm (Paediatric Medical Team)
Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays:
- 8.30 am to 10.00 am
Please be present with your child during the doctors’ ward rounds. If you have any questions for the doctor, you are encouraged to ask during the ward rounds. If you are unable to be present, you may ask the nurse to convey your message to the doctors.
Medical Information
All medical records and patient information are confidential. We will only share this information with you and your next-of-kin. Please approach our Nurse-in-charge if your immediate family members wish to find out more about your child’s condition.
Consent for Medical Care
A parent or legal guardian must accompany persons under the age of 21 years to provide consent for treatment and procedures as well as some investigations. Except in an extreme emergency the hospital cannot provide treatment without such consent.
Isolation for Infectious Diseases
Sometimes, it is necessary to isolate your child either because their resistance to infection is low or they have a contagious illness which other children in the ward must be protected from. In this case an isolation sign will be placed outside your child’s room. It should not be a cause for alarm - it is intended to remind others that measures have to be taken to protect your child and the others children and staff in the ward against the spread of the infection. You may like to check with the nurse in charge of your child’s care for further instructions.
