“My son was diagnosed with polycystic kidney when he was 6 weeks old. From then, we know a kidney transplant for him is inevitable.
He recently had a kidney transplanted. He was only 29 months old when he undergone the surgery. Thanks to Prof Yap Hui Kim & her team, A/Prof K Prabhakaran & his team, staff from the Liver & Kidney Transplant Office, doctors & nurses from Ward 46A (PICU) & Ward 45, Child Life Specialist & everyone who had helped in his speedy recovery.
From the bottom of our hearts, we (papa, mama, jie jie, grandpas, grandmas, aunties, uncles, cousins, godpa, godma, godsisters) would like to say, "THANK YOU TO ALL", who have helped Bryan in one way or another with your treatment, care and prayers for this special boy of ours.”

Dr Han Jen-Sann (Registrar, Department of Paediatrics)
“...thank you for your kind and conscientious manner in which you dealt with my son Jacques Slatye McCabe at the Children's Emergency on 7 July, 08. You had an instant rapport with both the children that was delightful to see…Thank you also for the meticulous stitching of Jacques's thumb. Even the nurse who was removing the stitches commented on how fine the stitches were. A remarkable effort, given the busyness at the Children's Emergency.
Let’s hope that there are more doctors at all levels who aim to emulate your wonderful skills with children.”

Clinic A (Children's Specialist Clinic)
“...Anyway, thought I'd also let you know that my experience at the clinic today exceeded my expectations. Every staff I met was very helpful and professional. Waiting time for consultation, payment and at the pharmacy was all very reasonable. I was just glad that I didn't have to run from one place to another to register or to get the medicine etc. Well, looks like you guys have got the processes sorted out as well as a good team in place.”

Dr Chew Su Yah (Registrar, Department of Paediatrics)
“My daughter, Ying Ying visited clinic A room 1 and was consulted by pediatrician Dr. Chew Su Yah on 1 Nov. This was a followed-up appointment after her visit to the hospital's Children's emergency on 30 Oct. She was suspected of micro-plasma and was put on a course of 5 days antibiotic treatment. Ying Ying wants to thank Dr. Chew for her professionalism and her very thorough examination of her. She finds Dr. Chew's advice very reassuring and is grateful for the advices. She is scheduled to revisit the clinic again 1 year later.
This is the first time Ying Ying has requested that I write in to thank the doctor after a consultation, hence I would like to let Dr. Chew know to keep up the good work.”

“I AM an expatriate who moved to Singapore from Sydney with my wife and 31/2-year-old son last October.
On July 9, my son Alasdair fell at the Science Centre at 10.15am and split his forehead open. I rushed him to the National University Hospital's Children's Emergency at Buona Vista, arriving at 10.30am.
We were seen by a triage nurse in three minutes and Alasdair was cleaned up and bandaged. Within 45 minutes we saw a doctor who assured me that my son had no other problems except for the long deep cut on his forehead and suggested having a plastic surgeon to stitch the wound.
Alasdair was admitted at 1.45pm and saw the plastic surgeon at 2pm. He was in the operating theatre at 4pm, kept overnight and discharged at 8.30am.
The service, hospital staff and facilities in Singapore are outstanding.
If the same thing had happened in Sydney we would not have got to see a plastic surgeon for at least three to four days and then we would have to wait for an operating theatre, maybe another couple of days.
I have loved my time in Singapore and this is just another example of the efficiency of this great little island.”

“I had been taking my daughter to the National University Hospital's Children's Kidney Centre for haemodialysis.
During the thrice-weekly sessions and ward stays when she developed complications, I witnessed the dedication and professionalism of Professor Yap Hui Kim and her team from the paediatrics and nephrology unit. They always showed compassion, care and concern for their patients. Prof Yap also put in tremendous effort to acquire cadaveric kidney for my child.
My family is also grateful to Prof Prabhakaran and Prof Robless, and their paediatrics and surgical teams, for sacrificing their weekend to do the renal transplant.”

“My daughter, Ruth, was hospitalised... for status epilepticus from EV71 encephalitis after suffering from hand-foot-mouth disease.
I witnessed, as a trained neurointensivist, Ruth fight for her life in the PICU. The excellent team of medical professionals at NUH... worked round the clock to save her with the best care. As my wife and I walked those very dark hours and days, we were very touched by the outpouring of medical support, well wishes, prayers and encouragement. Ruth is recovering very well at home. For this miraculous recovery, we thank the entire Dept of Paediatrics, led by A/Prof Quak Seng Hock for their care and attention, with special mention - Prof Low Poh Sim, Dr Ong Hian Tat, Dr Stacey Tay (the team of neurologists) and the EEG technicians for their round-the-clock support and off-hours reviews; Dr Nicola Ngiam, and her PICU team of doctors and nurses for their selfless dedication as they first attended to Ruth at the Children's Emergency, and later cared and nursed her in PICU; A/Prof Paul Tambyah for the invaluable Infectious Disease input. We are extremely grateful to Dr Denise Goh, for coordinating every step of her care. Words cannot do justice to the excellent care given to Ruth. Neither can they express our appreciation and gratitude. These outstanding doctors and staff are priceless assets to your hospital as we experienced the very best care in Paediatric Neurology and Intensive Care.”

Laura Tan, Nurse Manager & team, Paediatric Inpatient Cancer Centre,
and Christianus Lojuman & Sadariah Bte Abdullah, Environmental Services
“We were very fortunate to have a wonderful team of nurses led by Sister Laura Tan to care for Ian… Sister Laura Tan is an extremely dedicated nurse who is committed to giving all her patients the best care possible and she has been a tremendous help. Eg when Ian had a Hickman line inserted, Sister Laura made special pockets in his shirts for him… Despite her busy schedule, Sister Laura would find time for us whenever we needed her advice or expertise. There are also other nurses in her team whom we think deserve special mention for being outstanding in their own ways. They are Katherine, Ee Lin, Dixie, Shuyu (Christine), Xiuling (Vivian),Loida and Idayu.
We would also like to mention the two housekeepers, Chris and Sabariah, who have worked hard to keep the rooms and ward very clean…”

Dr Chan Poh Chong, Consultant, Department of Paediatrics
“On behalf of Singapore Airlines Cabin Crew Club for Community Care (5Cs), we would like to thank Dr Chan for joining us as a volunteer for our community project, Senior Citizens’ Banquet held on 5 November 2005… it was essential for us to ensure adequate medical support and through the contact of one of our volunteers, Dr Chan learnt of our situation and readily agreed to volunteer his help.
During the event, one of our wheelchair-bound participants suddenly had a fit. Dr Chan immediately attended to him and advised us to send him to hospital. Dr Chan then accompanied him in the ambulance. I was truly impressed by the way he handled the medical emergency. He was a reassuring presence to the patient as well as the rest of us…
Even after the event, Dr Chan voluntarily followed up with the Home on the patient’s condition, and updated us on his condition and date of discharge… We feel that Dr Chan is truly an example for us to follow.”
