Paediatric Diagnostic Service
We have a Paediatric Diagnostic Centre located in the Specialist Clinics area and is staffed by a team of laboratory technologists trained to work with children and reduce the anxiety and fear that tests may cause.
Facilities are available for blood testing, neurophysiological studies, gastroenterological investigations, echocardiography, allergy testing, respiratory function assessment and sleep studies.
The paediatric research and service laboratories provide a full range of specialist tests which include including molecular studies mapping for gene defects eg. thalassaemia and DNA analysis for muscle diseases. There is also a comprehensive laboratory for paediatric immunology testing.
General radiology services (eg. x-rays) are undertaken in the Diagnostic Imaging Department on Level 2 and easily accessed via a lift from the Paediatric Diagnostic Service.
As part of a tertiary University Hospital, we have access to the modern imaging techniques including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Ultrafast Computerised Tomography (CT) scanning. These are located in the Functional Imaging Centre close to the Paediatric Diagnostic Centre.
