Critical Care
The Paediatric intensive care team’s goal is to provide the best clinical care to the critically ill children from Singapore and the region in a child friendly, holistic environment that will enhance their recovery. The PICU receives and serves children with a wide variety of disorders and varying levels of acuity.
It provides multi-disciplinary pediatric critical care for both medical and surgical patients including post-operative neurosurgical, orthopaedic, otolaryngologic and cardiothoracic surgery.
The newly renovated Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Ward 46A is well-equipped with 8 negative-pressure rooms, 1 positive pressure and 2 neutral pressure isolation rooms.
Our facility supports the National Paediatric Programmes for Liver, Renal and Bone Marrow transplantation. We are the only centre managing solid organs transplantation in children in Singapore.
All forms of mechanical ventilatory support, including non-invasive ventilation, high frequency oscillatory ventilation, as well as invasive cardiopulmonary monitoring are available. Renal dialysis, Molecular Adsorbents Recirculation System (MARS) – liver dialysis are also employed as support modalities in the PICU.
Other services include bedside continuous electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring, bedside fiberoptic bronchoscopy and nasojujenal feeding tube insertion.
