Who is eligible?
Children from birth to 18 years with developmental or physical disabilities may be considered for our services. The services we have are streamlined to comprehensively cover 2 at-risk age groups:
Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics Services @NUH – Birth to 18 years of age
Child Development Unit @ Jurong Polyclinic – Preschool to 7 years of age
A. Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics Services @NUH
Comprehensive individual consultation services are provided for children from early childhood through adolescence. And emphasis is placed on understanding and amplifying the strengths of the child, as well as evaluating and managing areas of concern. Services include assessment and management of the full range of behavioural and developmental issues:
School maladaption and or school failure
Learning difficulties e.g. dyslexia
Attention Deficit Disorder and hyperactivity
Autism Spectrum disorders
Language and speech disorders
Temperament difficulties or challenging behaviour
Sleeping, eating and toileting problems
Childhood adjustment issues
Developmental delay
Developmental follow-up for premature babies and children with chronic diseases
School integration Programme (Individual education plan)
Social skills programme
Sensory integration programme
COGMED attention and memory training programme
Dr Rosebeth Marcou heads the COGMED Working Memory Training Programme. This is a computer-based training programme for individuals aged 4 years and above who experience difficulties with attention and working memory. COGMED is a highly effective and research-supported programme has been shown to fundamentally change the way a child or adolescent copes with educational and "real life" demands.

B. Child Development Unit @Jurong Polyclinic
The Child Development Unit (CDU) is a multi-disciplinary service comprising paediatricians as well as allied professionals. At the CDU, we provide patients and their families with a family-centred and community-based approach to assessment and treatment of these conditions.

To build strong links with community organizations and government agencies.

To adopt a multi-disciplinary approach in order to manage and care for children with developmental and physical disabilities.

Autism assessment (including children on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum)
Educational assessment (including cognitive testing, school readiness assessment)
Neurodevelopmental assessment (evaluation of a child’s developmental weaknesses and strengths to optimize a child’s ability to learn)

Our team of doctors and allied professionals are active in giving public education talks. We work closely with child psychiatrists in managing children and teenagers with difficult and challenging behaviours. We also provide support for parents with autistic children, through our autism support group.
