nuhkids service is provided by The Children’s Medical Institute (CMI) of the National University Hospital (NUH). CMI, made up of the Department of Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Neonatology, and Children’s Emergency of NUH, is a tertiary paediatric centre equipped to provide comprehensive and specialised medical and surgical services for newborns, children and teenagers seeking personalised specialist care for acute and chronic childhood illnesses.

nuhkids offers a comprehensive range of Paediatric (children) and Neonatology (newborn) medical services, including in-house surgical expertise in Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurosurgery (brain), Cardiothoracic (Heart) Surgery, Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose & Throat) surgery, Ophthalmology (Eye) surgery and Dental surgery. Child psychiatry and psychology services are also available.

nuhkids service is delivered through modern and child-friendly outpatient and inpatient facilities, including a 24-hour Children’s Emergency. Our 90-bedder inpatient centre houses a neonatal intensive care unit and a paediatric intensive care unit for critically ill newborns and children; the Children’s Blood and Cancer Centre for children with cancers, and a children’s kidney centre offering haemodialysis & peritoneal dialysis for children with renal failure.


At nuhkids, we aim to provide care that will achieve the best medical and quality of life outcomes for our young patients.

    We are the pioneers and centre of excellence for paediatric transplants, having performed :
    • first bone marrow transplant in Singapore (1983)
    • first renal transplant in Singapore (1989)
    • first cadaver liver transplant in Singapore (1991)
    • world's first successful cord blood transplant on Thalassemia major patient with SGH (2001)

    nuhkids service is provided by The Children’s Medical Institute (CMI) at NUH. CMI is also the department of Paediatrics of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. The Singapore's University Department of Paediatrics was first established in 1962 and moved to the existing site at National University Hospital in 1986. Built on a strong and firm foundation of teaching, research and excellent clinical care, CMI has a long tradition of providing comprehensive care to children from Singapore and the region. CMI also trains the next generation of doctors and specialists, offering a structured training programme for young doctors locally and from the region.

    CMI’s vision is to improve children’s health and transform delivery of care through fully-integrated and globally-recognised research, education and innovation.
