The Cardiac Department is accredited to provide advanced specialist training (AST) in cardiology. Trainees are on rotation to various disciplines over 3 years to maximise exposure and acquire all-round competence. These include cardiology inpatients, ambulatory cardiology, coronary care, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac catheterisation, and cardiac electrophysiology and pacemakers. The Department also trains overseas fellows, who generally spend a year in a sub-specialty of their choice.
We also have an active continuing medical education (CME) program, comprising advanced updates, journal clubs, technology review sessions, grand rounds and core curricula lectures. Trainees have the opportunity to attend regional and overseas scientific meetings, conferences and workshops. Active participation in CME ongoing clinical trials and research programmes are strongly encouraged for trainees and fellows.
