The Heart Institute (THI) at NUH brings together the resources, expertise and capabilities in the areas of Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery to better meet the needs of the growing number of patients with heart disease. THI also works closely with National Healthcare Group (NHG) polyclinics and GP members of NHG Partners to ensure seamless care for patients with heart problems. The development of Cardiology started with the set-up of the first Coronary Care Unit at Medical Unit II at Outram Road General Hospital. Today, the NUH Cardiac Department continues to shoulder the triple responsibilities of providing evidence-based medical care, training of undergraduates, post-graduates and paramedics, and spearheading basic and clinical research.
